Tanzania
Tanzania, a country along the coast of East Africa, is home to Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti National Park, and so much more. The best time to visit Tanzania to climb Kili or to see wildlife on safaris is between June and March.
As climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro is one of the main draws of travelers to Tanzania, we prioritized finding a locally-owned partner here who truly specializes in ethical and responsible climbs. This ensures trekkers have a safe, well-supported, and environmentally conscious experience.
Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, with its height reaching a summit of 5,895 meters (19,341 feet). Its peak elevation earned its beloved nickname, the "Rooftop of Africa", and also its place amongst the "7 Summits" - a collection of the highest peaks on each continent.
Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro requires the assistance of guides and porters. Our partner is a member of the Kilimanjaro Porter's Assistance Project, which helps ensure the fair pay, treatment, and welfare of the guides and porters.
The language may be confusing, but 'climbing Kili' actually is a strenuous trek or a rigorous hike, not a technical climb requiring mountaineering training and equipment. This makes this iconic trekking experience accessible to most travelers of average physical fitness who have about three months to train and prepare.
There are eight well-established routes up Mt. Kilimanjaro, each passing through five unique biodiversity zones ranging from lush rainforests to alpine deserts. We prioritize three of these routes: the popular Machame "Whiskey" Route, the scenic Lemosho Route, and the newest addition: the Northern Circuit Route. We offer Small-Group guided climbs with fixed departure dates (guaranteed departures, even with only one trekker), and Privately-guided climbs.
We recommend adding on a relaxing safari at the end of any climb! Tanzania offers some of the world’s most renowned safari experiences, and our local partner ensures these are responsible and kind to the animals and wildlife. We urge you to spend several days discovering the classic Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Tarangire National Park, and Lake Manyara National Park.
